The time frame for projects has ranged between 2 weeks to full summer. Once you sign up for the platform, we’ll send a list of sample projects to help you begin and tailor for your needs. Whether you're a college student, business owner, freelance artist, or corporate executive, or simply a curious person, this collection of resources will help you unlock creative thinking in whatever challenge you're tackling. The d.school Action Lab will help you design more human-centered, equitable and effective initiatives, services and programs. The Lab is an intensive, hands-on opportunity to dive into and move forward your own team project. The Action Lab provides the structure and support for about 90 hours of work for learning and doing. Students will also select a domain focus area to gain added knowledge in a field of interest to them.

We believe that diversity leads to better design, and opens up a greater range of creative possibilities. Like in life, there is no single right answer in a d.school class. We give students ample opportunities to experiment, take creative risks, and fail. It's great preparation for real-world problem solving—because it is real-world problem solving.
Students emerge with both a strong engineering depth and technical know-how, as well as creative, visual thinking abilities and a deeply human-centered orientation to problem-solving. Their ability to seamlessly integrate across these two “right brain / left-brain" ways of thinking empowers them to make and build products, services, and experiences with transformative potential in service of people. D.school classes are open to students enrolled at Stanford.
In order to rapidly experiment, you must be able to relax your mind and reach a mode of acceptance. This will eliminate the natural tendency to block ideas that seem off or unfeasible. Then, let your doing lead your thinking – and lead with your hands.

They learn design thinking inside the d.school as they advance an ambitious project from the real world. Then they relaunch themselves and create change, with the added benefit of a new set of skills they can teach others.
